Diane de Poitiers, Henry II and Catherine de' Medici
Diane de Poitiers was Henry II's Mistress but she was also his life long companion after he returned from inprisonment under Charles V when he was 12, she only became his mistress in 1538. She was related to Catherine de' Medici, through the de La Tour d'Auvergne as her paternal grandmother was Jeanne de La Tour d'Auvergne, and a rival as she exuded more influence over Henry than Catherine did, and had more political influence than Catherine. She encouraged him to visit Catherine's bed and was in charge of their children's education. Born Sep 3, 1499 and died April 25, 1566. She was dismissed from court when Henry died by Catherine.

Catherine de' Medici, she was the daughter of Lorenzo II Duke of Urbino and Madeleine de La Tour d'Auvergne. She married Henry Oct 28, 1533. She was born April 13, 1519 and died Jan 5, 1589. She had 10 children but 8 survived childhood.
