Description

Elizabeth of York. Queen of England
Also Elizabeth Plantagenet, Princess
Born: Feb 11, 1466
Died: Feb 11, 1503
Reigned over England: Jan 18, 1486 - Feb 11, 1503

She was the daughter of King Edward IV and Elizabeth Woodville and was the sister to King Edward V, who was only king for a short time after their father died and their power hungry Uncle Richard had parlement declare his brother's marriage invalid under a false claim he was engaged to Eleanor Butler when he married. He crowned himself King Richard III and possibly killed his two nephews, he was later killed at Bosworth Field.

Elizabeth married Henry Tudor Earl of Richmond later King Henry VII and was the mother of Arthur, Margaret Queen of Scotland, Henry VIII, Elizabeth (died at 3 years old), Mary Former Queen of France and Duchess of Suffolk and Edmund Duke of Somerset (died at a year and a half). She died in 1503 after giving birth to a daughter who also died. After she died her husband was devastated by her death and became gravely ill but recovered but was greatly affected by her death. When Henry made a token effort to find a new wife and suggest Joan of Naples his description of what he desired in a wife actually matched her (Elizabeth), it is likely from this that they had a true love match and from descriptions loved each other greatly.

She was a kind and loving mother and wife, and was the only known Queen to be the daughter, sister, neice, wife, mother and grandmother of English monarchs.

It was said that she was tall, since her father was 6 foot 4 inches and her son Henry was 6 foot 3 inches it is possible she was 5 foot 9 inches, inbetween her mother and father's height if her mother was average height (5' 3").
