When he was 9 months old his father died and he became the youngest person ever to succeed to the English throne. On Oct 21 1422, he became King of France when his grandfather Charles VI's died in agreement with the Treaty of Troyes in 1420.

He fostered education, he founded both Eton College and King's College, Cambridge.
