8th Great Grandson of Louis IX through his son Robert Count of Clermont, 12th cousin to Henry III

His reign began the 203 year rule of the Bourbon family.

The Valois and Bourbon line were cadet branches of the Capetian dynasty. Thus with the death of Louis XVII (son of Louis XVI and Maria Antoinette) in 1795 but the brief 15 year rule by Louis XVI's brother and son and the 18 year reign of a fifth cousin ended the 839 year rule of Capetian dynasty that began with Hugh Capet who was the 5great grandson of Charlemagne and Hildegard through Pepin of Italy.

Charles IX also fathered a son, also called Charles, by his mistress Marie Touchet. Their blood lines continues on to this day.
