The Sirens

The Sirens, they were women who lived on the island Anthemoessa and lured sailers to their death with their irresistable song, the only mortal to hear their song and live was Odysseus. They were formerly sea nymphs who were Persephone's handmaidens and when Hades abducted her Demeter turned them into part birds to help in the search but after a while they gave up and settled on Anthemoessa. They were the daughters of Achelos (who was the river god of Aetolia) and either the muse Melpomene
